Some of you may already know that protein helps trigger the fat burning process. However, I want to go into more detail. Protein triggers three main fat-burning hormones: 1. Growth hormone (GH) GH is created in the pituitary. From there, it works in your liver to trigger fat burning. 2. IGF-1 IGF-1 is insulin-like growth factor. This hormone is made by your liver. This is triggered by growth hormone and protein. 3. Glucagon Glucagon is created in the pancreas. It opposed insulin. So if insulin causes you to store fat, glucagon causes you to get rid of fat. Proteins should not be consumed in excess amounts. This can stop you from losing weight because too much protein triggers insulin. The quality of protein intake also determines fat burning, so it should be high quality (no soy), no added sugar, digestible, non-allergic, and complete. While protein triggers fat burning through these three hormones, there are several rules that apply. 1. Keep your protein at 20 grams per meal. 2. Keep the quality high (no soy) and complete, make sure it's digestible and non-allergic 3. Make sure there is NO sugar added to the meal (sugar increases insulin) Pea protein is fantastic if you want a meal replacement. It is far easier to digest, it doesn't trigger allergies, it's complete, and tastes pretty good.
