MC shares that the accessibility of GLP/GIP drugs will become increasingly better at prices between $250-350 per month. Especially if Medicare/Medicaid move forward with approving these medications in the list of drugs they cover. The accessibility of these drugs is a game changer for many people who are suffering from obesity and have tried so much to move their weight with no success. MC shares that this is her story. She has not been able to lose past 245lbs for years, yet she began her weight loss journey with Tirzepatide in August of 2023 and has lost more than 50lbs since then. She is now at a weight she hasn't been since her late teens and feels that without access to this medicine, she would still be stuck despite her vigilance to calories (1500-1700) and exercise - 30-40 minutes a day.
Now, there are more than 80 online companies offering access to GLP/GIP drugs. There is a need to be cautious about the issues related to where these companies are getting access to the drug and how you are being educated about these medicines.
Three things to consider:
1) Where does the drug come from? Compound pharmacy or the pharmaceutical company

3) How are you educated about side effects and what to do? Constipation, nausea, and vomiting are possible.
Using weight loss drugs improves so much related to obesity - an increased risk of cancer, arthritis, diabetes, gallbladder issues, insulin resistance, and much more. Yet insurers have never been ready to cover weight loss drugs in the past and only recently because obesity is now seen as a disease versus a lack of willpower or discipline; there has been some movement of the needle, yet the cost of using a drug for diabetes (co-pay $25) and weight loss (co-pay $250+) sounds ridiculous!! Why the disparity?
And now the drug Tirzepatide has been approved for obstructive sleep apnea and semaglutide for cardiovascular disease, the options are increasing for these drugs and their ability to help people earlier before they have a diagnosis of a chronic illness such as diabetes, heart disease, or cancer.
We have asked ourselves why insurance companies want to keep us sick? Wouldn't they support care that prevents progression to a chronic or debilitating illness? Wellness care must become the new model as we live longer, and the change needs to start with those of us who contribute to an insurance company every month. MC sometimes wonders what would happen if we all decided to stop paying for insurance and got to a cash payment system? MC has friends with a very high deductible and often asks their medical providers if they can pay for this directly. Guess what? The lower price suddenly appears when you can pay for Medical Care directly. The money saved in chasing the insurance dollars for a medical practice is enormous. Why do we all have such hostile feelings towards insurance companies?
