Day 33 Eating a cookie every day and losing weight There are other reasons for weight loss plateaus For example, if you’ve lost over 30-50lbs or more you could likely have to change your calorie deficit goal. This is simply because you’re carrying so much less weight. Less weight requires less energy to move around. It’s normal. Another reason could be metabolic adaptation. Along with the problem mentioned above, if you’ve been in a deficit for a long time your body will try and slow down your rate of weight loss. Especially with daily movements, your body slows you down to burn fewer calories over time. So depending on the person, if you’re in a consistent deficit for more than 3-4 months, you may want to do a 1-2 months of a maintenance period. This can help you come back down to baseline energy, restore of muscle mass, and get rid of some diet fatigue. Another reason, is your calories are too low. Believe it or not this can cause weight to not go down, because it increases cortisol so much. Cortisol is your stress hormone. Without many calories your body would be very stressed. Cortisol also increases water retention. So even if you’re losing body fat your scale won’t show it. You would eventually see fat loss but you don’t want to lose weight this way. Not just because it’s unsustainable but also it would eat away at your muscle mass. But in my case and in MANY cases, tracking calories accurately is what’s missing. Have you ever tried it? Using a food scale and everything? It’s a game changer. But remember more aggressive isn’t better. You still want to perform for life.
