GLP1 drugs are being used off-label, but not always by the prescribing doctor. Safety can be a concern, but here are a few reasons why microdosing can be considered: Microdosing of a GLP-1 drug refers to the practice of starting treatment with a very small (subtherapeutic) dose of a GLP-1 receptor agonist, such as semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy), liraglutide (Saxenda, Victoza), or others, and then gradually increasing the dose over time. Purpose of Microdosing GLP-1 Drugs: 1. Minimize side effects: GLP-1 drugs commonly cause nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Starting with a very low dose helps the body adjust and reduces the risk of these adverse effects. 2. Improve tolerability: Patients can better tolerate the medication long-term. 3. Customized response: Some patients are more sensitive and may respond well to smaller doses. 4. Off-label use: In some cases, microdosing may be used off-label for weight loss or metabolic benefits in non-diabetic patients. Important Note: Microdosing is not officially approved by drug manufacturers or regulators. It is typically done under the guidance of a healthcare provider, often with compounded formulations.
