During pregnancy most women will put on on average of 25 - 35 extra pounds. This will, of course differ for every woman. Some will gain more weight than others. The list below gives the breakdown of where the extra weight is most commonly from:
7.5lbs is an average weight of a new born baby
7lbs can be put down to stored fat and other nutrients
4lbs is from the production of extra blood
4lbs is retained water and other bodily fluids
2lbs due to increased size of the breasts
2lbs from enlargement of the uterus
2lbs amniotic fluid surrounding the placenta
1lbis the average weight of a placenta
Understanding what makes up your weight gain during your pregnancy lets you to see exactly how much post baby weight loss you need to shoot for and how much of it is actually body fat.
Looking at the example above you will note that only a slight amount of the body weight gained through pregnancy is actually from storing body fat. It's this fat that we need to target and get rid of.
Your baby belly weight loss plan needs to be tackled in a systematic, gradual way.
A diet high in natural wholesome foods and low in refined, packaged ready made meals is the beginnings of your overall plan. The key here is to be well organized, buy and prepare foods ahead of time. It can be as easy as making two of each main meal and putting one in the freezer for another time. Then on the days you are just too tired to think of cooking, you are already a step ahead.
Exercise should be very low impact and not extremely physically demanding. Try not to do jumping or bouncing activities for a minimum of 12 weeks after giving birth. Some careful resistance training could be started quite soon after the baby is born, but use only light weights with higher repetitions. Do your best not to strain, twist or bend overly much.
