Hey y’all! It’s your girl Montrelle, and today we’re diving into something that’s been all over the internet—GLP-1 medications for weight loss. If you’ve been following my journey, you know I’ve been on a mission to get healthier, and part of that journey involved trying out some of these medications. So today, I’m talking about semaglutide and tirzepatide—two medications that have been making waves in the world of weight loss. What is a GLP-1 Medication? Let’s first break it down. GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1, which is a hormone in the body that helps regulate blood sugar, promotes satiety, and can slow down the emptying of your stomach. These medications mimic this hormone, and by doing so, they help with weight loss by curbing hunger and improving insulin sensitivity. They’re used primarily for treating type 2 diabetes, but more recently, they've been prescribed off-label for weight loss as well. There are two GLP-1 medications that have become super popular: semaglutide (sold under the brand names Wegovy and Ozempic) and tirzepatide (sold under the brand name Mounjaro).
