Speaker 1: I'm Doctor Sue Decotiis, and I run a medical weight loss practice in New York City, New York. And so many people are concerned and they want answers to the questions of what are the side effects of GLP one drugs? We're talking about GLP one drugs. We're talking about Ozempic, which is semaglutide, um, and Wegovy, and we're talking about Tirzepatide, which commercially is available as Mounjaro and Zepp bound. And the chief symptoms, or should I say the net effects are a feeling of real satiety. You feel really full. So if you want to call that a side effect, you can. But it slows gastric emptying. So that means that your meals stay with you a lot longer. You can get a little nauseous, but this is usually not too serious in most people. You might get some belching. You might feel like a little reflux, like your food repeats. Some people tend to get a little more constipated or once in a while have diarrhea. The serious things could be pancreatitis. That's very, very unusual and it usually resolves itself after a good diagnosis. But essentially these drugs are very safe and the side effects get better with time. If someone is really sensitive to the GI side effects, that gets better after a couple of weeks. So that's why when we dose people, we dose them up slowly, get them into their fat burning zone and take them down. And the key is also hydration. The more hydrated you are, the more fat you're going to burn and the less side effects you're going to experience. So give these medications a try if you can't lose the weight on your own.
