In this video, Doctor Owen, Medical Doctor and Chemist, summarises the findings of all the currently available randomised control trials on natural testosterone-boosting supplements. Because this video looks only at randomised control trials on humans, some popular "testosterone booster" supplements are omitted because they remain totally unproven.
The video explores the mostly positive data behind fenugreek seed extract and ashwagandha, including a suggestion for the future direction of ashwagandha testosterone research (pitting root extract versus leaf extract).
It goes on to explore Tribulus, Maca and Asian Ginseng. Four randomised control trials failed to provide any evidence that Tribulus terrestris boosts testosterone levels in humans. And three randomised control trials failed to show any evidence that Maca powder increases testosterone levels in humans. As for Asian Ginseng, 6 of 7 RCTs failed to show a statistically significant difference versus placebo, with just 1 finding a significant positive effect.
The last section of the video addresses the total or near-total dearth of high-quality human trial data on Fadogia agrestis and Forskolin, which to different extents, are both popular natural supplements taken for supposed testosterone-boosting effects.
In summary, this video details the currently available scientific evidence and stresses the need for more data. Specifically, more data is needed on these supplements in females, longer-duration trials and long-term safety data. I hope this summary video is informative and of use to some.
